Capacity Building
Call for projects

The Digital Technology Supercluster is now accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for new projects in our Capacity Building program.

The Capacity Building program partners with employers, educators, learning and development technology companies and community organizations to build job ready, world-class talent and teams. We co-invest in projects that help Canadians develop the skills, leadership and opportunities needed to grow innovative digital enterprises.

Accepting Expressions of interest (EOI)

The Digital Technology Supercluster is now accepting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for new projects in our Capacity Building program. At this time, we are focused on projects relevant to an inclusive, resilient economy.

We are looking for projects that help Canadians become job-ready through rapid, cost-effective programs for workforce transitions, upskilling into digital technology jobs and supporting growth in digital products and services. We will invest in two types of projects: strategic initiatives and exploratory projects.

Strategic Initiatives

We will support up to three new strategic initiatives supporting innovative, ambitious workforce transitions into digital technology jobs. We expect to co-invest between $2M and $4M over a maximum three-year period and up to 50% of the total project cost. Our current priorities are:

New competency based digital learning and development solutions that reduce the time and cost needed to move people into new roles, especially supporting workers affected by COVID-19
Innovative digital training content and delivery tools for employers across a range of industries for reskilling and upskilling towards “job ready” qualifications
Upskilling opportunities that help people combine targeted new skills with their past experience to progress into emerging technology jobs in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data management and other well-paying technology jobs
Leverage digital technologies, including secure digital IDs, experiential/immersive learning platforms, blockchain-based credential verification, etc.

Exploratory Projects

These are smaller scale projects where we explore novel concepts and new approaches for developing the skills, leadership and opportunities that lead to world-class talent. We will also fund Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and bridge experiences that help people and companies explore digital technology roles associated with emerging technologies. We expect to co-invest between $50K and $500K over a one-year maximum period and up to 50% of the total project cost.
Our current priorities are:

01

Diversity and inclusion best-practices, frameworks, assessments and tools that can be used across a range of Supercluster projects and initiatives.

02

Exploration of new or novel approaches to developing digital skills, leadership and opportunities in rural or remote communities.

03

Experiential learning opportunities that extend the benefits of Technology Leadership projects to underrepresented groups and communities

04

Strategic approaches to growing digital ventures and scaling SMEs using market pull strategies and adoption support involving organizations across our ecosystem.

Project Teams

We emphasize a collaborative approach to innovation where groups of complementary organizations work together to build stronger, more powerful solutions together. As such, projects are expected to have the right mix of organizational capabilities to meet the project’s objectives as well as one industry partner and one non-profit organization.

Diversity and Inclusion

All projects are expected to feature diverse, inclusive teams with the meaningful participation of women and Indigenous Peoples.

Submission

EOIs can be submitted anytime. Successful EOIs will be invited to submit a full proposal for investment review.
