Project Overview

As workplaces reopen in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that tools are available to check workers and visitors entering the worksite.

Currently, temperature check technologies require contact, are too slow for high traffic entries, and rely on a manual process of recording temperatures by personnel which are prone to errors, something that may not be able to warn about possible infections in asymptomatic cases.

Project HEALTHYACCESS aims to create a hygienic, touchless screening process. The initiative brings together industry-leading face recognition technologies, infrared thermal imaging sensors, detection technology for vital signs like heart rate and respiration levels, and AI to process the data. This combination will pair identity verification with health signs collected without any contact.

The project is led by Invixium in partnership with TriVue Services, Invent Canada, MARA Technologies, and Manawa.

Scanning units would be located in critical entry and exit points for workplaces, airport and seaport boarding gates, border crossings, stadiums, and theme parks. Using face recognition, it will determine who is and who is not allowed to enter. As well, HEALTHYACCESS will be able to flag people with potential diseases and trigger a response line preventing the entrance from opening or directing them to a health station for further screening of vitals like oxygen levels, respiration levels, stress, heartbeat, or blood sugar levels, all potential indicators of a contagious disease.

The platform will be enhanced by the development of algorithms allowing contract tracing based on biometric authentication at various access points and check-in locations. This could be triggered if an employee tests positive. Beyond detection, the system will also reduce health risks for individuals entering facilities by replacing cards, PINs, and fingerprints with touchless face recognition.

Deployment of HEALTHYACCESS will not only assist during the post-COVID-19 reopening. It will stand ready for use when the next pandemic happens.
